Overview

The Senior Strategic Planner (SSP) will provide strategic leadership to assigned accounts, selling through strategic visions and programs to clients.  As the owner of consumer understanding, the SSP will identify consumer insights and opportunities and translate them into actionable ideas and programs.  Additionally the SSP will be designated as the subject matter expert in a particular area and on an as needed basis will work on other accounts that require your particular subject matter expertise.  The ideal background for this position is one in which the person has acquired a solid track record of innovative strategic thinking that has driven positive business results.

 

What you'll do:

  • Be the primary, day-to-day contact for all matters of strategy and planning, including marketing, communications strategy and engagement planning
  • Take the leadership role in discovering and articulating differentiating customer insights and translating them into strategic and creative platforms
  • Envision, create and own client presentations
  • Develop, direct and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research that answers key questions and provides fodder for insight identification
  • Partner with Account Services to gain client approval to recommended strategic direction
  • Work cross-functionally within the agency to ensure the successful and innovative execution of approved strategies
  • Partner with Account and Creative teams to sell recommended work to the clients
  • Support the identification and generation of new business and revenue opportunities by working with Account Services, Creative, and Database Strategy on strategic development 
  • Participate in new business pitches
  • Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert within the agency, with clients, and within the industry at large
  • Mentor junior strategists

 

Who you are:

Skill Set/Knowledge:

  • Advanced understanding of integrated marketing principles including digital, direct, and database marketing; Experience with brand strategy is a plus
  • Ability to synthesize information from various sources to create an actionable point of view and direction for a project
  • Ability to convert strategic plans into actionable ones
  • Highly resourceful, with strong research skills and a working knowledge of marketing analytics
  • Ability to create effective & persuasive client presentations in PowerPoint  & Keynote
  • Proactive and able to work independently
  • Highly creative, with first-rate conceptual skills
  • Exceptional visual, oral and written communications skills; a captivating presenter
  • Exceptional listening skills
  • Resourcefulness/relentlessness
  • Ability to influence and be persuasive

Education/Experience Required:

  • BA/BS Marketing or Communications degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 7 to 10 years of experience as a Strategist or Planner in the marketing, advertising and/or branding fields creating, leading, and selling through digital, direct and/or integrated marketing strategies and solution
  • Agency experience is highly preferred
